Mentions vs. Conversations: What Are We Actually Scraping?
Here’s how we define and analyze both conversations and mentions
Not all brand mentions are created equal. Some are just passing references. Others spark full-blown discussions. We capture both.
Mentions → Your keyword pops up somewhere—post, comment, reply. Basic, broad, but great for volume tracking.
Conversations → The real gold. A keyword appears in a parent post, and we grab every reply, reaction, and debate that follows. Not just the keyword, but the full discussion.
Rich Text → Emojis, sarcasm, tone shifts - because “great” can mean “amazing” or “I’m being passive-aggressive 🙃”. Context is everything.
Why This Matters
Mentions tell you how often people talk about you. Conversations tell you what they actually mean.
Example: Someone posts “This chocolate brand is unreal.” Do people agree? Complain about the price? Recommend a competitor? We scrape it all.
The Takeaway
Tracking mentions alone is like counting claps without hearing the speech. By analyzing both mentions and conversations, you get volume, sentiment, and context .aka the stuff that actually helps you make smarter marketing moves.
